Hold the date. More details to follow.
And so it begins again! After the July 2017 article on the reunion, which was last held in 2014, a movement began to restart this family tradition.
The goal of the reunion revival is to have as many Hagenbuchs, connected family members, and all other descendants of Andreas Hagenbuch meet in the pavilion located at the one room school house across from Oak Grove Church on June 24, 2018 at 12:30 PM. Prior to the reunion, everyone is invited to attend church at Oak Grove which was founded in 1869. Its earlier members were, of course, Hagenbuchs and many are buried in its cemetery.
Below are some articles gleaned from The Beech Grove which highlighted the 50th Hagenbuch Reunion in 1991.
From the December, 1989 issue of The Beech Grove:
Map showing how to get to the 50th Hagenbuch Reunion location in 1991:
Following are the published names and addresses of those who attended the 50th Hagenbuch Reunion in 1991. This appeared in the December, 1991 issue of The Beech Grove:
Also published in the December, 1991 newsletter was the following report by then reunion secretary, Mrs. Florence (Hagenbuch) Robb:
The 50th Hagenbuch Reunion was held on June 23, 1991 at the Montour-Delong Fair Building instead of the Montour Preserve due to inclement weather. Some of the family met at the Oak Grove Lutheran Church at 9:00 AM for services to help celebrate our 50th reunion. Lunch was served cafeteria style at 1:00 PM at the Fair Building. Following lunch, Mark Hagenbuch presided with the business meeting. There were 147 persons attending the reunion!
The minutes were read and approved. The reunion date and place for 1992 is June 28 at Montour Preserve from 12:30 to 3:30 PM. Officers elected for 1992 were: President – Mark O. Hagenbuch; Vice-President – Joseph Hagenbuch; Secretary – Florence Robb; Assistant Secretary – Leona Rathburn; Historian – Ellen L. Hagenbuch. Recreation committee appointed for 1992 are Kathleen Mangold and Linda F. Hagenbuch.
The 50th Reunion was not only a success because of the great number of people who attended the reunion and the worship service at Oak Grove, but it was also successful because the Hagenbuch crest was featured and sold on coffee mugs and cloth emblems. The June, 1991 issue of The Beech Grove advertised those items for sale:
Commemorative mugs and cloth emblems will be on sale at the Hagenbuch Reunion. The mugs are beautifully designed with an inscription and the family crest. Emblems are approximately 3 inches, the shape of a shield and full color, suitable to sew on hats, jackets, shirts, etc. Mugs will sell for $3.50 and cloth emblems for $2.00.
Some folks may still have these items from when they were sold in 1991. I will be checking on prices so that we can order mugs and cloth emblems to be sold at the reunion on June 24 next year. Afterwards, if there are any of the items left, orders will be taken to ship them to folks who could not make the reunion.
The June 24, 2018 reunion, the attendance of our families to worship together at Oak Grove Church, and the purchase of commemorative items is all very exciting. Mark the date on your calendar now, and look for more information about the reunion to be published closer to the time. Also, please contact others in our family so they can attend this grand reunion of the descendants of Andreas Hagenbuch.
