Reunion Schedule
11:00 AM – Attendees will arrive at Hidlay Lutheran Church (address and map above) and meet in the fellowship hall, where everyone will register. Each person will receive a name tag and genealogical handout so they can trace their lineage from Andreas Hagenbuch (b. 1715) and make connections to other family members. Attendees will be encouraged to write on their name tags which of Andreas’ children they are descended from.
11:30 AM – A walk-through of the church sanctuary will begin. Hidlay is one of several churches where our family comprised some of the earliest members of the congregation. The church was founded in 1796 and was attended by the families of Andreas Hagenbuch’s son, John (b. 1763), and two grandsons, Henry (b. 1772) and Andrew (b. 1785). Their descendants remained part of the congregation for several hundred years. Mark and Andrew Hagenbuch will discuss our family’s arrival in this area of Pennsylvania in 1802.
12:00 PM – A tour of the cemetery will be conducted by Mark and Andrew Hagenbuch. Hidlay’s cemetery contains over 50 members of our Hagenbuch family! These include: John Sr. (b. 1763) and Magdalene (Dreisbach) Hagenbuch (b. 1766), Henry (b. 1772) and Mary (Wolf) Hagenbuch (b. 1774), John Jr. (b. 1791) and Christena (Hess) Hagenbuch (b. 1794), Jacob (b. 1792) and Abilona (Hayman) Hagenbuch (b. 1791), Daniel (b. 1803) and Elizabeth (Hill) Hagenbuch (b. 1806), Samuel (b. 1806) and Susannah (Hess) Hagenbuch (b. 1813), Anna (Knorr) Hagenbuch (b. 1809), Andrew C. (b. 1837) and Margaret A. Hagenbuch (b. 1843), and many more. Even if you are not a descendant of these Hagenbuchs, you will enjoy hearing their stories.
1:00 PM – A potluck lunch will be served in the fellowship hall. Please bring your own table service (plates, utensils, and cups), as well as foods to share. This will be typical family reunion fare. Ham and rolls will be provided. Local folks can prepare their favorite picnic foods, salads, or casseroles. Travelers may stop at the deli or bring a bucket of chicken, chips, or bakery sweets. Plan to bring a thermos of iced tea, lemonade, or something else to drink. Near the end of lunch, six quarts of homemade Grape-nut ice cream will be prepared. Volunteers will be needed to hand crank the ice cream and, of course, to eat it!
2:00 PM – After our bellies are filled, there will be a few games and some announcements. A table of genealogical artifacts will be arranged for viewing. Attendees are encouraged to bring family photographs and other items to share with the group. Mark and Andrew Hagenbuch will be on hand to discuss family lines, stories, and history. We hope that everyone will spend some time relaxing, walking the cemetery, and reconnecting with their Hagenbuch cousins.
4:00 PM – The reunion will conclude. We welcome any and all help cleaning up and returning the space to its original condition.
